Thalamic nuclei after human blunt head injury.
Paraffin-embedded blocks from the thalamus of 9 control patients, 9 moderately disabled, 12 severely disabled, and 10 vegetative head-injured patients assessed using the Glasgow Outcome Scale and identified from the Department of Neuropathology archive. Neurons, astrocytes, macrophages, and activated microglia were differentiated by Luxol fast blue/cresyl violet, GFAP, CD68, and CR3/43 staining...

متن کاملPrevalence of Intracranial Hemorrhage after Blunt Head Trauma in Patients on Pre-injury Dabigatran
INTRODUCTION Dabigatran etexilate was the first direct-acting oral anticoagulant approved in the United States. The prevalence of intracranial hemorrhage after blunt head trauma in patients on dabigatran is currently unknown, complicating adequate ability to accurately compare the risks and benefits of dabigatran to alternative anticoagulants. We aimed to determine the prevalence of intracrania...

Memory defect was related to coma duration, and was not secondary to impaired perceptual or conceptual analysis of the material to be remembered.
